Porsche held a launch evening for the new 911 model this week – and Safely Insured was there. A particularly important milestone in the Porsche timeline.

This refreshed 911 features some minor bodywork face-lifts, new infotainment system, revised chassis settings and even a ‘sport response’ button which prepares the car’s gearing and ECU for maximum activeness for 20 seconds.

Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S Models

All good stuff, but the brand new Porsche 911 engine is the important part. The Carrera and New Porsche LaunchedCarrera S models will now use 3.0 litre flat 6 twin turbocharged motors, dropping the
normally aspirated flat 6 engines we’d spent 40 years becoming so accustomed to.

The new motors are more powerful (20BHP, 44lb-ft torque), more fuel efficient (approx 12 percent improvement) and faster. These engines, or iterations of, will most likely find their way into the rest of the Porsche range over the years.

Porsche Hatfield were our very hospitable hosts for this event; supplying champagne, a buffet and even a DJ for the 466 delighted guests! There was a lot of excitement in the room and we weren’t disappointed.

After an hour becoming familiar with the lovely machinery; the Porsche 911 964 RS, the 919 Le Mans winner for 2015, the 1960’s 911 2.4 Lux, 2015 Boxster, various new 911 models, and even a 918 Spyder, the show started.

A cinema-like experience detailed the particulars of the new 911 and the significance of it’s engine. Porsche, and especially the 911, have always been the benchmark for performance cars and they clearly intend to hold onto that crown.

We can definitely confirm that 52 years of carefully developing the world’s most iconic sports car continues…with this impressive new Porsche 911 added to the range. We would love to give this a run around a track to push it to the max.
