Performance cars come in a myriad of shapes, sizes, marques and prices. Whether you like the look of an Audi R8 or the speed of a Ferrari 458, Performance cars certainly have a lot to offer. From the speed to the specifications to the style, Performance cars cater for the thrill seeking fans of luxury.

The category of performance cars has many classifications within it. These can include; Coupes, Super cars, Saloons and Grand Tourers. Performance cars can also be sub-categorized into sections.

Luxury Car Marques – These include brands such as Ferrari, Maserati and Porsche.

Subsidiaries of Car Makers – Well known car makers often produce certain vehicles which don’t necessarily fit their ‘run of the mill’ stereotyping. For example, you can buy a Mercedes car as standard or you can buy a Mercedes AMG, which you’ll find will have many additional extras and higher specification of parts, more modifications and will have a more sporty appearance. The same applies to Audi, with their production of the RS6, R8 and so on.

Specialist designs – These types of performance cars are usually custom built to the owners requirements. They contain specific parts and modifications only comparable to a small number of other vehicles.

Many think that performance cars are either impractical or too expensive. Now, it’s true to say that higher end performance cars such as the Honda NSX or the Aston Martin Vulcan (with a price tag of an estimated £1.8 million) are indeed expensive however there are many marques of cars which are more affordable. These include the Subuaru BRZ and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Both coming in at under £25,000 for a standard model.

Geneva International Motor Show 2015

The 85th Geneva International Motor Show took place this year from the 5th-15th March. With a variety of high performance vehicles making an appearance, it was every car fanatics dream come true. The turn out of cars consisted of; the Ford GT, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lamborghini Aventador SV and the Audi R8 e-tron and many, many more. Although not all the cars at the event were classified as ‘high performance cars’ or ‘performance cars’. The show also hosted viewings of cars such as the Citroen Berlingo and the Hyundai i20. For photos from the event, follow this link www.salon-auto.ch/en/photos and explore their website for more detailed information.

It would seem a performance car is not just one of ‘high performance’ but one of speed, adrenaline, design, style and excitement. You do not have to be a professional F1 driver to enjoy driving a performance car, everyone who likes cars can enjoy the ride. With the majority of the cars being designed for both on track and every day use, it would seem a shame to confide many of them to just the track. Enjoy your performance car day to day and sink in to the luxury of the design.
