As far as Performance Cars go, the all-new BMW 5 Series offers a huge amount of ‘wow’.

It will be arriving in showrooms within the UK in February 2017 and for us, February couldn’t come soon enough. We’re looking forward to the new seventh-generation 5 Series and all that it has to offer.

Performance Cars: the BMW 5 Series specification

Performance cars are designed to be equipped with power-crunching speed, with the comfort of a saloon. These elements are precisely what the BMW 5 series entails. Here’s a few of the models for you to get excited about:

520d Diesel

You get 187bhp and can travel from 0-62mph in just 7.5 seconds. This power enables you to achieve a top speed of 146mph (only when on a race-track, of course). Current fuel economy is 68.8mpg.

The 520d with xDrive (which is a four-wheel drive) option has a decreased fuel economy of 62.7mpg.

530i Petrol

This option gives you 249bhp from a starting price of £40,120. What’s the 0-62mph? We’re just about to tell you… 6.2 seconds.

Again, there’s also the xDrive version (540i xDrive) which starts at a higher price tag of £46,645 and goes from 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds.

530d Diesel

The 530d version starts at a slightly higher price tag of £43,835, yet comes with 261bhp and a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds.

So, what’s changed?

The Current 5 series haven’t done so well against its competitors / rivals, such as Jaguar. This new and improved upgrade seeks to improve this current standing.

Changes have been made in the form of: sleeker LED headlights, adaptive LED lights (500m range also available), different surface with the shoulder line now stretching all the way back to the tail-lights and there’s even 21 exterior paint finishes to choose from.

And what about the power? I hear you ask… There’s a new chassis which cuts at least 70kg of the weight. There’s more aluminium in the body, lighter breaks, plus new alloy wheels (this cuts another 30kg off the current weight). And what does this mean? Less weight, more power.

Insurance for a BMW 5 Series

For Performance Cars, such as those BMW make, it would be beneficial to have the insurance cover in place which will truly protect your pride and joy. A standard car insurance policy may not cover all the aspects you want covered, such as: non-standard features, modifications, and expensive fixtures and fittings. It’s always best to get these things checked out before hand, before going ahead and purchasing a policy.

For example, the Safely Insured Performance Car Insurance scheme allows for: ‘like for like’ modifications cover, limited mileage discounts, second car discounts, and even has an ‘age friendly’ entitlement, such as people as young as 19 being able to obtain cover (this factor is all dependent on the individual case and may not be the same for everyone, however).
