February’s customer car feature is all about Connor’s modified Mk1 Mazda MX5 Eunos.

Connor’s a true enthusiast to the extent that he’s done a lot of the work on the car himself and has even built a custom-made flamer kit.

We spoke with Connor about this modification project and what he plans for the future…

MK1 Mazda Eunos MX5

“So, my car is a Mk1 Mazda MX5 Eunos, special edition S. Currently, the car has standard power but in the next few weeks it will be having a turbo build. This build will include a GT28 60RS (disco potato) which will run an ME221 ECU, with a Greddy Profec electronic boost controller. Within the next year it will have a fully forged bottom end build.

As for the modifications on the car, it has a full EMP performance 3” custom exhaust with an AEM wideband. Other modifications include: OMP bucket seats, with Sparco 4-point harness’s OMP deep dish steering wheel, 7twenty style 44 wheels wrapped in Toyo proxies.

It also has: HSD dualtech coilovers with 14 stage damper adjustability, been fully polybushed (including diff and engine), coolant system re-route as they’re prone to cylinder number 4 overheating, a carbon fibre BGW, low-level (sleepy eye) LED headlights, and a wide arch kit with a GV front splitter.

The power steering has been removed which gives me more feel of the road and track when driving at speeds.

And just because who doesn’t love a flamer kit – it has one of those aswell. Custom made, by me.”

Q&A with Connor

Who has carried out the majority of the work on your car?

All the work on my car has been done by myself, and friends, other than the custom exhaust. The exhaust was both made and fitted by EMP performance. Also, tracking and tyre changes that have been done was carried out by Wheels in Motion in Chesham!

What car shows do you like attending in the UK?

The shows I like attending in the UK are Japfest, Japshow, and Trax at Silverstone.

What’s your favourite track in the UK?

Brands Hatch is one of my favourite tracks in the UK.

What would your advice be for first time modifiers?

My advice for first time modifiers would have to be don’t buy cheap modifications / parts. It’s true, you’ll end up buying twice otherwise. Also, if you can do the work yourself, and with friends, then do it because you will feel a bigger sense of pride. Not only in yourself but in your car too, as you have built it and made it what it is instead of a garage taking all the credit. That being said, my main piece of advice would be to just enjoy the car no matter whether you have loads of power or not. Every car can be fun!
