The Volkswagen Golf R32 simply oozes high-performance class and relays elegance amongst the world of performance cars.

Inconspicuous sophistication, coupled with a 3.2 litre v6 engine, has enabled Volkswagen to make a revolutionary car in the R32. If you like the power and performance of a modified car, yet don’t like the exterior style ‘fuss’ or the noise, then an R32 is the car for you. It’s like no other ‘hot hatch’. It precedes luxury in terms of a simple, elegant exterior, yet has all the power of a GTI (and more) under the bonnet.

When describing the 2005-2008 model, it’s only fair to include all the elements which make it so wonderful. As previously noted, it has a 3.2 litre v6 (naturally aspirated) engine and gives out a whopping 246 BHP. Its top speed is limited to 155 mph which enables it to get from 0-62 mph in just 6.5 seconds (6.2 seconds when fitted with Volkswagens semi-automatic DSG gearbox) – notably a lot quicker than the GTI. It has a 6 speed gearbox as standard and is four wheel drive as its fitted with Volkswagen’s ‘4Motion four-wheel drive system’. This makes it great for the outdoors and also great for the winter months. Many people also like the twin exhaust at the back.

When it comes to the cost of a Volkswagen Golf R32, from new you would have been looking at a price in the region of £23,000 – £24,500. Today however, you can pick up an R32 within the range of £5,000 – £12,000.

GOLF R32 vs. GOLF R vs. GOLF GTI

Golf R32 – As previously noted, the R32 has a 3.2 litre, naturally aspirated, v6 engine. This makes the car sound great, however it doesn’t compete with the Golf R in terms of power. What this car does exceed in, however, is added extras – style and appearance. It’s 4WD and has a nice range of interior extras.

Golf R – The R model has a 2.0 litre tuned Turbo engine. It’s a newer model and is aimed more at performance as opposed to comfort. It’s notably a lot quicker than the R32. With forced induction, such as a Turbo or Supercharger, you will always generate more power than a naturally aspirated engine (unless you have a ridiculous amount of money to spend).

Golf GTI – The GTI, in a sense, has a combination of elements from both the R32 and the R. It has a 2.0 litre turbo engine (like the R), however it’s designed for comfort as well as performance (like the R32).

Despite the R being quicker than the R32, the R32 is in a class of its own. It was created as a ‘special edition’ if you will, and has since held onto its reputation amongst fellow R32 owners. The car sounds great, looks great, and has that additional power on top, for when you want to pick up the pace.

Insurance for a Volkswagen Golf R32

So, once you’ve bought your R32, before getting out on the road, the next step will be to insure it. As with any insurance premium, a number of factors go into making up the price. Some of these factors include: Car performance, car safety, car security, damage costs, parts costs, repair costs and repair times.

Each vehicle will be assessed and given a number between 1-50. More often than not, the higher the number, the higher the premium of insurance will be. If you’re wondering what the insurance group is for a Volkswagen Golf R32, we would classify this vehicle as a group 36. Although this may vary amongst different insurance brokers and companies.

The Golf R32 is in a league of its own and requires no introduction when making an entrance.

The naturally aspirated v6 engine makes all the sound you’ll need.
