Its top speed is limited to 155 mph which enables it to get from 0-62 mph in just 6.5 seconds (6.2 seconds when fitted with Volkswagens semi-automatic DSG gearbox) – notably a lot quicker than the GTI. It has a 6 speed gearbox as standard and is four wheel drive as its fitted with Volkswagen’s ‘4Motion four-wheel drive system’. This makes it great for the outdoors and also great for the winter months. Many people also like the twin exhaust at the back.

Golf R32 – As previously noted, the R32 has a 3.2 litre, naturally aspirated, v6 engine. This makes the car sound great, however it doesn’t compete with the Golf R in terms of power. What this car does exceed in, however, is added extras – style and appearance. It’s 4WD and has a nice range of interior extras.

Golf R – The R model has a 2.0 litre tuned Turbo engine. It’s a newer model and is aimed more at performance as opposed to comfort. It’s notably a lot quicker than the R32. With forced induction, such as a Turbo or Supercharger, you will always generate more power than a naturally aspirated engine (unless you have a ridiculous amount of money to spend).

Golf GTI – The GTI, in a sense, has a combination of elements from both the R32 and the R. It has a 2.0 litre turbo engine (like the R), however it’s designed for comfort as well as performance (like the R32).

Despite the R being quicker than the R32, the R32 is in a class of its own. It was created as a ‘special edition’ if you will, and has since held onto its reputation amongst fellow R32 owners. The car sounds great, looks great, and has that additional power on top, for when you want to pick up the pace.
