According to AutoCar, the new Toyota Supra will grace us with its presence in 2018 – yes, unfortunately we have to wait another year and a half – a year and a half of anticipation, excitement, and intrigue (with some frustration – granted).

At the moment, Toyota is said to be at the development stage whereby the car is out on the road – initially testing, we’re guessing.

What will the new Toyota Supra be like?

The Set-up – It’s rumoured to be a high-powered vehicle, with a rather complex power-train, built under high-tech construction mechanisms. Although Toyota and BMW have been working on the car together, it would appear that the project is now veering down the Toyota route. BMW had their say with the hybrid four-wheel-drive set-up. This incorporates a BMW engine (petrol) and some electric motors (the energy from these motors is stored in super-capacitors). It will be a similar set-up to that of the Honda NSX.

Design – The new Toyota Supra will take its inspiration in terms of style and design from the FT-1 concept car. It will look sporty, agile (yet robust), long, and able to drive through the air like a plane above the clouds. It will take elements from a ‘track car’ and incorporate this into a road-worthy design to enable the best of both worlds to live happily in the same vehicle. All of this is based on further predecessors in the line such as the 2000GT and Celica.

Production – No decision on production has yet been made. Where the car will be built and sold is still a mystery – let’s hope it’s close by. We guess this will just be a sit, wait, and hope game.
