Our customer, Nick, owns this show-stopping 503bhp Ford Escort RS Cosworth. I mean, all you have to do is look at it to realise it’s undergone a fair amount of modification work.

Taking the time to speak with Nick, we found out more about the car, his passions, what shows he goes to, and more…

Q&A with Nick

How long have you owned the car and what made you buy it?

“I have had the car since February 2018. I wanted one for 24 years. When I was 17 this car was the car all the high-profile footballers and celebrities had. I bought it as a nonrunner and it needed a lot of work. I wanted to be the one to bring it back to life.”

What is it about modifying cars you find so interesting?

“I think anything can be made better. I’m actually de-tuning this one as it had been badly modified over the decades. The 90’s wasn’t a period where people were sympathetic to the future values of these cars, so parts were bolted on whether they particularly worked or not and standard parts badly modified. Saying that, the engine I have is a Harvey Gibbs tuned 503hp – it’s absolutely ballistic.”

What would you say to someone who wants to modify cars for the first time?

“I would say go for it. But modify sensibly, i.e. before you throw huge power at the engine make sure the brakes and the chassis can handle it. Also, the more you modify a car the more fragile and unreliable it becomes.”

Money being no object, what car would you buy and why?

“I would have a Porsche GT3 RS or a Ford GT.”

What’s your favourite racetrack of all time and why?

“I personally like Croft in Darlington, County Durham. It’s a compact and fast track and always attracts the best people…”

Finally, what are your favourite car shows to go to?

“Again, my favourite show is the Ford RS owners club show at Croft. It’s a perfect mix of track and show and it’s small enough to see everything on offer. I think the larger shows are just about cash generation these days, so they are losing the appeal amongst many car fanatics.”
